ADD-DESC is a utility program requested by a WC sysop in Texas.
It looks through your ENTIRE WC files database and extracts the file
descriptions from all .ZIP files, writes each description to a file
called DESC.SDI, then add this file to the .ZIP file in the proper
Wildcat file Area. This program probably will be needed only once
or very infrequently. If you need to add DESC.SDI to just one or
two .ZIP files, the easiest way is to use my PUTDESC program.
ZIP files containing DESC.SDI can be uploaded to a Wildcat system
using my AUTODESC program, and the uploader can simply press ENTER
when asked for the description; it will automatically be inserted
in the Wildcat database.
ADD-DESC will process about 1000 files an hour (it has to find each
one and add the DESC.SDI file to it) but supports file sharing and
should not interfere with Wildcat or other programs in a multi-node
system. It is Desqview aware. You can stop the program by pressing
ESCape.
Only .ZIP archives are supported at this time. If there is sufficient
interest, I will add the ability to work with .ARJ, .LZH etc. as well.
Please let me know if you want this.
You must have PKZIP (c) Phil Katz available (such as in your PATH) for
ADD-DESC to operate properly.
I have tested this program pretty thoroughly on my own board and
have not detected any problem, but as with any software, wide
variations in system configurations can sometimes cause unexpected or
unforseeable results. For this reason, I make no warranties with
respect to this program as to its usability, safety to data, or any
results deriving from its use, and accept no responsibility for any
loss or damages directly or indirectly caused by using it.
Note that I have not tested this on networks. It SHOULD function
properly, but if not, someone will have to let me know! If this
program is useful to you, a modest registration is in order. If
you contribute $20 or more, you will be entitled to support on ALL
my WC3 utilities. Any bug reports, comments or suggestion are
solicited and welcome! Thanks.
